As part of this vision, we also mentioned that you can expect us to “make smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our current businesses.” From the very beginning, we have always strived to do more and to achieve important and meaningful things with the resources we have.
We have undertaken many initiatives that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those bold ventures now have over a billion users, such as Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven’t stopped there. We are still pushing forward, working on things that others might consider crazy, but we are incredibly excited about.
We’ve long believed that over time companies become comfortable and only make incremental changes. However, in the tech industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the next major growth areas, you have to be a little uncomfortable to stay relevant.
What is U.C.C (UNITED COMPANIES CORPORATION)? U.C.C is primarily a collection of companies. Essentially, we believe this allows us more management scale, as we can run things that are less connected independently.
U.C.C is about businesses thriving through strong leadership and independence. In general, our model is to have a strong CEO running each business, with me serving them as needed. We will rigorously manage capital allocation and ensure that each business is executed well. We will also ensure that each business has a great CEO and will determine their compensation.
This new structure enables us to maintain a tremendous focus on the incredible opportunities we have within U.C.C. It is clear to us and our board that the time has come to multiply U.C. C’s ambitious projects. I’m very happy to have such a talented team managing U.C.C, which allows me to continue developing our aspirations. I’ve spent a lot of time with passion and dreams, and of course, I will continue to do so. U.C.C itself is also developing new departments and opportunities, and I know I will always focus on innovation—pushing boundaries further. I know that the valuable team at U.C.C truly cares about making significant progress on our core mission of expanding the world.
U.C.C also includes collaborations with governments, in line with our policies. We are also excited about growing our investment sectors, like INVEST, as part of this new structure.
U.C.C has never traded its companies or divested any of them. Alphabet companies must maintain independence and grow their own brands.
